In May 2006, I made a memorable journey to Preah Vihear Temple, one of Cambodia’s most breathtaking and spiritually powerful heritage sites.
Standing proudly on the edge of the Dangrek Mountains, the temple offers sweeping views across the plains as well as a deep connection to Cambodia’s ancient history and identity.
I was fortunate to travel with Mr. They Chantho, whose knowledge and passion for history transformed the visit into something truly special. As we made our way through the temple complexes, he patiently explained the stories behind the carvings, the symbolism of the structures, and the significance of Preah Vihear throughout Cambodia’s past. His guidance helped me see the temple not just as a monumental structure, but as a living testimony to faith, resilience, and artistry.
Preah Vihear is also known as the “temple in the clouds,” standing on a 525-meter-high cliff in Cambodia’s Dangrek Mountains.
Looking back, that trip was more than just a visit to a historical site. It was a journey of learning, reflection, and quiet admiration for the cultural heritage that continues to shape who we are today.
Preah Vihear, with its sacred atmosphere and timeless beauty, remains one of the most unforgettable places I have ever been.
